The grand cast of the upcoming flick, "X-Men: Apocalypse," just got bigger. Director Bryan Singer announced officially on Monday that the "Magic Mike" star Olivia Munn is joining the team to play the role of psychic Betsy Braddock .
"Excited to welcome @oliviamunn as Betsy Braddock!," wrote Singer on Instagram referring to the name of the comic book character.
The upcoming action flick will see the return of cast members James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Charles Xavier and Erik "Magneto" Lensherr, respectively. The face of the franchise, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult are also reprising their role in the movie.
Digital Trends reported that the movie will also mark the debut project of many newbies like Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Hardy, and Tye Sheridan who will be seen as the younger versions of well-known mutant superheroes Storm, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Angel, and Cyclops.
The movie is in production and is slated for release on May 27, 2016. Munn's character Psylocke is quite well known as it appeared in "Captain Britain" series throughout the 1970s and '80s before ganging up with X-Men in 1987's "Uncanny X-Men," CNN reported. Since then, the character has been the mainstay of the spin-off of both the comic series.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is a sequel to "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" and will focus on the origin of mutants. Munn will play the role of Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock, sister of the British mutant superhero, Captain Britain. Braddock is known to be a powerful telepath whose mind lives in the body of a ninja named Kwannon. Braddock has immense mental abilities as she is able to create daggers by focusing her supreme telepathic powers.
Munn was seen recently in "Mortdecai" opposite Johnny Depp. Before joining "X-Men: Apocalypse," the actress of Chinese linage was also involved in "Iron Man 2" and "Deliver Us From Evil" in the past.
