18th Century Sex Toy

During a recent excavation in Poland, archaeologists stumbled upon what appears to be one of the world's oldest sex toys. The 250-year-old phallic object has been uncovered during an excavation in the coastal city of Gdansk.

Regional Office for the Protection of Monuments in Gdansk said in a press release that the phallic object is "large, thick, made of leather filled with bristles, and has a wooden tip." The object looks like an artificial penis was found in excellent condition and it presumably dates back to late 18th century.

"It was probably dropped by someone in the toilet," New York Post quoted the official press release."Whether that was by accident or on purpose is anyone's guess, though."

The site of excavation appears to be a fencing school for warriors or some kind of training centres. Discovery of hoards of swords and daggers from the site suggest that the place must have been a prestigious swordsmanship school.

Apart from swords, other items including fragments of pottery and jewellery have also been discovered from the same spot. As a matter of fact, the recently discovered phallus was certainly expensive since it was carved with proper finish and made from high quality leather, Discovery News reported.

Earlier this year, another prehistoric phallus was found in Germany, presumably 28,000 years old, which is considered the oldest sex toy of the mankind. According to the Institute of Sexology, use of sex toys by ancient people was a common practice. These toys were usually made from wood, leather, stone and even animal dung. They were also used symbolically as a means to boost fertility and ward off evil spirits.

Apart from sex toys, use of condoms was also known among ancient civilization. An Austrian museum boasts of world's oldest condoms, dating back to around 1650.
