“Cool Daddy and Hot Mommy" (Ku Ba Qiao Ma), which premiered on April 13 on Beijing Satellite TV, is a new comedy television series centered on the issue of single parenting, which is gradually flourishing in China’s bigger cities.
The 40-episode series, which releases two brand-new episodes daily, is inspired by the American sitcom "Baby Daddy." The U.S. series follows the story of a man whose life was turned upside down after his former flame left a baby girl at his home.
The latest Chinese urban romantic comedy show stars veteran actor Li Guangile, who takes the role of Sun Dalei.
Sun is a 36-year-old entrepreneur who is obligated to raise his 12- and seven-year old children. His ex-wife decided to go to Hong Kong for a career upgrade.
Part of the series' side story is the lead role's competition for his children's attention against his ex-wife's current boyfriend who works as a college professor.
According to the veteran actor who captured the Chinese viewers for his suave looks, it is his first time to play the role of a neurotic father.
"I try very hard to look mature . . . But it was still a challenge, as I haven't yet been a real father," the 34-year-old star shared.
Ding Hei, the series' director, said that "Cool Daddy and Hot Mommy" intends to feature the fast-paced development that is currently transpiring in the modern society.
"More and more women are eager to earn a career status, and the men have to replace their wives' roles in the families. It's interesting. And it's time to see the change on the small screen," Ding enthused.
