A sequel to Matthew Vaughn's action-adventure film "Kingsman: The Secret Service" is happening.
The follow-up to "Kingsman: The Secret Service," starring Colin Firth, is in the works at Fox, according to The Wrap. While there was no official announcement from the studio about the sequel, it was confirmed by the people who are aware of the project.
After its release on Feb. 13, Vaughn's film has made an estimated domestic gross of $126 million and estimated foreign gross of $274 million, for a total of $401 million. It had a total budget of $80 million for production and it managed to claim half of the budget during its opening week.
Prior to "Kingsman: The Secret Service," the English film helmer also directed "Layer Cake" (2004), "Stardust" (2007), "Kick-Ass" (2010), and "X-Men: First Class" (2011). He is also part of the production team of Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four." Vaughn will also produce a Dexter Fletcher comedy-sport entitled "Eddie the Eagle," starring Hugh Jackman, Christipher Walken, and Egerton.
The film sequel has to have the characters reprise their roles for it to be successful as its predecessor, as per Screen Rant.
It is unknown whether Firth can reprise his role for the sequel, leaving Egerton in the lead role. Vaughn said that they will find a way to have Firth return for the follow-up film.
The film starred Firth, Samuel Jackson, Michael Caine, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Sophie Cookson, and Mark Hamill.
Jane Goldman co-penned the script along with film maker Vaughn. Vaughn who also produced the movie based on the comic book "The Secret Service," which was authored by scribes Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons.
The sequel of "Kingsman: The Secret Service" has no known information yet about exact plot details, characters, and release date. Fans have to wait for further announcement yet.
