Asa Butterfield is the top candidate to don the mask of Spidey and play the role of Peter Parker in the Spider-Man series' reboot.

Scoopster Umberto Gonzalez posted on his Instragam account that Butterfield is the lead contender for the spot, with four other actors also lined up. The "Ender's Game" star is their choice ever since the decision to reboot the series. The reboot is rumored to be titled "Spiderman : The New Avenger" and will release in mid-2017.

Others in contention include Tom Holland, Natt Wolf, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James, according to Hypable.

However, the gossip column indicate that none of these actors are yet to be screen tested or auditioned for the role, they are still considered the favorites to play Peter Parker. Writer Jeff Sneider stated that an official announcement will be made three weeks after the screen tests are completed. Marvel and Sony are contemplating making offers to these stars and others in the upcoming weeks, according to Screen Rant.

Though the development of the reboot is yet to take place, the makers want a new lead actor as Spider Man is set to play a small cameo in the upcoming superhero Movie "Captain America: Civil War."

The movie will release in the summer of 2016 and filming needs to be commence soon. Considering the schedule and the small timeframe in view, Asa Butterfield could well be the new Peter Parker.

However, neither the actor nor his rep commented on his involvement in the series. In fact the actor's agents are touting the "no comments" stance as of now.
