Floyd Mayweather, Jr. of the U.S. yells out to the crowd after defeating Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines in their welterweight WBO, WBC and WBA (Super) title fight in Las Vegas, Nevada, May 2, 2015.

A new report surfaced on May 5, Tuesday about a rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao as an ESPN journalist claimed that the American boxer sent him a text message about the matter.

According to the journalist, Stephen A. Smith, Mayweather Jr. informed him that the rematch will be after a year because Pacquiao will undergo a surgery and it will take him almost a year to recover, The Telegraph reported.

Mayweather Jr.'s alleged text message is in contrast to what he said before the "Battle for Greatness" match. The 38-year-old boxer said that he will be retiring by September after one more fight so it is not yet clear if the plan to fight Pacquiao will push through, Daily Mail reported.

With a record of 48 wins and no loss, Mayweather Jr. is just one win away to be in the same level as legendary boxer Rocky Marciano, who has 49 wins and no loss and was a heavyweight undefeated champion.

Mayweather Jr. is yet to make an official statement regarding the rumored rematch between him and Pacquiao.

Pacquiao's camp did not issue any statement regarding the rumored plans of Mayweather Jr. However, they released a statement that Pacquiao suffered from a significant muscle tear in his shoulder before his fight with Mayweather Jr.

Pacquiao had a broken rotator cuff and a lot of the spectators of the show blame his injury as the reason for his defeat.

An MRI scan is in the possession of the Keran Jobe Orthopedic Clinic as surgeon Neal ElAttrache proved that Pacquiao suffered from a severe muscle tear. ElAttrache is known for operating other athletes such as Tom Brady, Zack Greinke and Kobe Bryant.
