Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. won the fight against Filipino boxer Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao on May 3, Sunday, and reports have emerged that the prize money of the American boxer will be used to pay the $10 million bail of rapper Suge Knight.
Knight's lawyer, Matthew Fletcher, told New York Daily News that he thinks his client might be bailed out of jail this coming week as they feel that Mayweather Jr. will win the championship. Fletcher added that Mayweather Jr. and Knight are really good friends so there is no reason for the boxer not to pay the bail of the rapper.
However, a key member of Mayweather Jr.'s team announced that there is no truth to the statements released by Knight's lawyer, TMZ reported. The source told the publication that Mayweather and Knight were great friends before but no longer had any communication a few years ago.
There is no official announcement yet from the camp of Mayweather regarding this issue.
Knight, the founder of Death Row Records, has been in jail since January 29 and has pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him. He was involved in a hit-and-run incident leaving one man dead while the other injured after he plowed them at a Compton restaurant earlier this year.
Prosecutors are saying that the rapper intentionally targeted one of the men involved in the plowing incident because they had a heated argument with Knight at the production site of the upcoming biopic called "Straight Outta Compton" during the said time.
Knight said otherwise claiming that Tam Carter, the one who died, worked with another man to attack him and he accidentally ran over the victims as he tried to escape.
Knight's original bail was set at $25 million but Fletcher argued it was too much resulting to the judge reducing it to $10 million. Knight is set to attend the jury trial on July 7.
