A new "X-Men" spin-off movie is being developed by 20th Century Fox and it is called "The New Mutants."

"The New Mutants" is set to explore the unseen corners of the "X-Men" universe by adding a new set of mutants with unique powers, as per Deadline.

"The Fault In Our Stars" director Josh Boone also helped in writing the stand alone film. Boone has already established a wide fan base from the young adult group with his 2014 film, "The Fault In Our Stars, which starred Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Nat Wolff, Laua Dern, and Willem Dafoe.

The drama film has crossed $307 million worldwide gross, since its release on June 6, 2014.

"The New Mutants" is likely to be based from the "New Mutants" comics, written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Bob McLeod, as per Cinema Blend.

Claremont and McLeod's comics featured a new batch of mutants, which includes Cannonball, a mutant who can "rocket himself in air;" Karma, who is capable of entering others' minds; Mirage, who can trigger illusions; Sunspot, who can assimilate solar energy; and Wolfsbane, the werewolf.

While "The New Mutants" can mirror the storyline in the comics, Boone can still modify the existing characters in the new film just like what Matthew Vaughn did in his 2011 "X-Men: First Class," in which the whole character line-up was replaced except Beast and Professor X.

The director also wrote and helmed the 2012 comedy-romance film "Stuck in Love," which starred Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly, and Lily Collins.

Boone's other projects include the drama-horror film "The Vampire Chronicles," which is a remake of the Anne Rice work of fiction that led to the development of "Interview With The Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles."

Another project of the filmmaker is a film adaptation of "The Stand," a Stephen King novel.

Along with Boone, Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner will produce the film. Knate Gwaltney is also on board to co-write the screenplay.

At this point, the film is in its early phase of development, so the fans have yet to wait for further updates on the plot details, the cast members, additional characters, and release date.
