Chinese and Indian leaders Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi eye to further strengthen the ties between the two emerging economies.

A strengthened relationship between China and India, two of the most populous nations and largest burgeoning economies in the world, will not be only beneficial for both nations but also for the rest of the world.

For analysts, the combined population of the two--2.5 billion--is itself good news.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has recently proposed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the two countries must complement each other more and work more hand in hand to become growth catalysts for regional and global economic development.

The two leaders met on Thursday during Modi's visit in Xi'an, the capital city of Shaanxi Province.

China and India have been sharing a long-standing history of cultural trade, making it a significant factor in boosting the nations' bilateral relationship. From 2002 to 2014, the bilateral trade volume between the two has grown from $4.95 billion to $70 billion.

In Sept. 2014, the two leaders have agreed to forge closer ties during Xi's visit to India. More partnerships are expected to be signed during Modi's three-day reciprocal trip.

The advancement of the relationship between the two economic giants is predicted to bring a hundred billion worth of bilateral trade volume for this year. China has also pledged a $20-billion investment to India's infrastructure and industrial projects for the next five years.

New opportunities offering a fortified partnership between the two countries include the Belt and Road initiative, which is already making headway in various nations such as Belarus and Russia, and Modi's "Act East" policy.

Meanwhile, both China and India have also signed a memorandum of understanding in October, establishing the international financing institution Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

The two also cooperate closely through other multilateral platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS.
