KFC Tray Typer

KFC's Tray Typer is a bendable Bluetooth keyboard gadget, and is the perfect solution for keeping smartphone screens greaseless while eating fast food. The smart placemat is even water-resistant and rechargeable.

The tray liner is only 4 mm (.16 in.) thick, according to Yahoo Tech. Besides containing a fairly big keyboard, it is also quite durable.

The KFC keyboard is part of an ad campaign in Germany to replace the paper mats on serving trays at fast food restaurants. Serviceplan, one of Europe's largest advertisement agency groups,  is the creator of the KFC ad campaign.

Serviceplan said that during the first week of launch, the customers took all the unique tray covers home. This seems to imply that another feature of Tray Typer is that it is reusable.

In all fairness, McDonald's and Burger King have released smartphone apps for their fast food chains. These include features such as restaurant menus and directions to the nearest location.

However, KFC has taken tech promotions to a new level. The company's replacement of burger buns with chicken fillets shows that it is thinking outside the box on several levels.

This is not KFC's first use of cutting edge tech. Last year KFC Japan launched a combo that included a fried chicken-shaped keyboard, mouse, and USB stick. Also, KFC UK launched a bendable keyboard with the same features as the Tray Typer, according to Tech News Today.

The new KFC product shows the increasing use of mobile devices in modern society. It is an innovative way to solve a unique problem in the Information Age: fast food grease on gadget screens.
