NFL star Cam Newton signed a record $103.8 million five-year deal with Carolina Panthers after intense negotiations that lasted for 11 days.

Carolina General Manager Dave Gettleman has intense faith in the quarterback and hopes that he would lead the team to a Super Bowl title. If indeed, the Panthers manage to win the Super Bowl under the leadership of Newton then it will be their first such title.

"I feel like I can get us there as well," Newton said of leading the Panthers to their first Super Bowl title. "They're not saying anything I don't think myself," according to USA Today.

The contract is for a massive amount of $103.8 million and both the parties agreed to this amount after some heated negotiations that lasted for 11 days. The terms of the contract state that 26-year-old Newton will get the amount of $67.6 million during the first three years with his stint with the Panthers. The leftover money will be released during the last two years of the contract.

According to WFMY News 2, the signing amount is a record for any player in the history of the franchise. Newton is understandably happy over the record but he is taking the figure in his stride. To celebrate the new contract, he opened a milk carton, mixed in some cereal and got ready for a day of some intense practice so that he can honor the faith that the team management has shown in him.

Currently owned by Jerry Richardson, the Panthers team started 20 years ago.
