After a number of delays, "Avatar 2" will finally hit the theatres on Dec. 25, 2017. Sigourney Weaver who played Dr. Grace Augustine in the original movie will return for the sequel even though her character died during the first movie of the franchise.
Director James Cameron revealed that since no one dies in a science fiction movie, Weaver will be playing a role in the flash back sequences that mark the arrival of Jake Sully in Pandora.
The delay in releasing "Avatar 2" is mainly due to the delay in editing and post-production work. After the success of "Avatar," director James Cameron apparently formulated enough content to make four sequels to the movie. However, The Gospel Herald Entertainment indicated that Cameron is working with different writers for every movie.
Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who wrote "Rise of the Planet of Apes," are responsible for the script of "Avatar 2." "The Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" writer Josh Freidman will be writing for "Avatar 3" while Shane Saleno, who co-authored "Savages," will work on "Avatar 4," according to Movie Pilot.
Sam Worthington, who portrays Sully's character, signed a contract agreeing to be a part of all the three sequels. His love interest in the movie, Zoe Saldana, who worked in series like "Star Trek Reboot" and "Guardians of the Galaxy," will be accompanying him in this endeavor.
"Avatar 3" will be released in 2018 closely followed by "Avatar 4" in 2019.
"Avatar" had set record as the highest grossing movie in the world with earnings of over $1.4 billion in the United States and its sequels are expected to break this existing record.
