Warner Bros. has officially named the director for the upcoming DC comics adaptation of "Aquaman." "Furious 7" director James Wan will be helming the film that is slated for release sometime in 2018.

Just recently, Warner Bros. President for Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman confirmed Wan's involvement in the upcoming movie, Latin Post reported.

According to Silverman, Wan's body of work could serve as a good contribution to the franchise. Additionally, he believes that Wan's talent and perspective could make the material a huge success with "The Conjuring" and "Insidious" parts 1 and 2 under his belt.

In other news, Wan, who is currently directing "Robotech" for the big screen will most likely set the film aside first to accommodate "Aquaman."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there is a huge possibility that Wan will no longer direct "Robotech" because "Aquaman" is a much bigger opportunity for him. The live-action adaptation of the hit anime "Robotech" is slated for release in 2016.

Meanwhile, Wan's involvement in "Aquaman" will also require him to oversee the script of "Aquaman" that will be penned by Kurt Johnstad. Its producers include Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder.

"Aquaman" will star Jason Momoa as the underwater superhero that will also make his first big screen appearance in the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." The titular character Aquaman is a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom who will be torn between the land dwellers polluting the waters and his people who are ready to invade the surface.
