Iggy Azalea Apologizes For Abusive Racist Tweets, Goes On Twitter Rant

| Jun 12, 2015 05:00 AM EDT

Iggy Azalea is an Australian rapper, songwriter and model.

Rapper Iggy Azalea's past Twitter comments came back haunting her, when a few of her racist and homophobic tweets became viral, drawing her immense criticism and hatred.

According to Latino Fox News, the backlash over anti-gay comment made by the 25-year-old rapper became so intense that she has to pull out of Pittsburgh Gay Pride event at the eleventh hour. The event is scheduled on June 13 and Nick Jonas is likley to replace her.

The organizers and advocacy group declared that the Australian rapper's comments do not resonate with the principle and values of the event.

"I meant no harm and deeply regret ever uttering these words," tweeted the "Fancy" hit maker in order to apologize, saying that she is also a firm believer in equality and her past tweets do not reflect her character.

The controversial tweets in question were posted way back in 2011 and are now deleted. The snapshots of the same, available at several media outlets, show a series of hateful abusive tweets, some of which were explicitly targeted at gays, Asians and people from other minority class.

With a love-hate relationship with social media, Azalea went on a Twitter rant on June 11 posting almost a dozen crytpic messages during the wee hours. The tweets ranged from thoughtful thanks to her fans for sticking by her during all the controversies to all sorts of random facts.

Azalea recently faced another fan fury for postponing her "Great Escape" world tour. The rapper told Seventeen Magazine that one of the many factors that contributed in the postponement was that she believed she required a break.
