Damian Lewis Likely To Be Next James Bond

"Homeland" star Damian Lewis has recently emerged as one of the frontrunners to be the next super spy, James Bond. British bookie William Hill has put Lewis' odds of becoming next Bond at 3:1.

Hill explained that the surge in the bets favoring Lewis is so high that it has shaken the belief that Daniel Craig will return as 007. While "Luther" star Idris Elba is the top contender and has long been rumored to be the next Bond, Lewis seem to be following him closely behind.

The top contender, the "The Wire" actor, has joked about the matter in April saying that the rumor of him becoming the next Bond was "really starting to eat itself," and he feels he will never be able to play the super spy.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" star Tom Hardy has also shown enough potential to be the next Bond, Independent reported.

Meanwhile, "Man Of Steel" actor Henry Cavill is also in the race to be the next super spy. The actor rumored to be considered for the part in 2005, but was deemed too young at that time and the highly coveted role went to Craig instead.

Other actors who stand  a chance to be the seventh Bond is "Thor" actor Tom Hiddleston, "Furious 7" star Jason Statham, owing to his ability to do his own stunts, and "X-Men" actor Michael Fassbender.

Meanwhile, the current Bond had signed a five-movie deal with the franchise, Daily Mail reported. His role in Sam Mendes' upcoming "Spectre" is the fourth time he is playing the super spy. The 24th Bond movie is set to be released on Nov. 6.

Craig is likely to play Bond for one more reboot, after which the highly sought after role of fictional character of British secret service will be up for grabs.
