The Google Nexus 2015 is nearly sure to feature fingerprint reader thanks to the added native support of the capability to Android M. But it is likely that biometrics on the vanilla Android flagship will be further expanded with iris scanner being touted as a solid candidate to get on board come launch time.

The latest reports from South Korea indicate that top smartphone vendors Samsung and LG are nearing on their goal to equip their next-generation flagships with iris recognition, foremost to bolster the security features of mobile devices. The rumors suggest that the technology could become commercially available by 2016, according to G4Games.

Or hopefully earlier to make it in time for the Nexus 2015 unpacking. As the tech blog site has noted, iris scanner has been in discussion since last year and in LG's case there were speculations that the company was planning to deploy the LG G3 in 2014 with eye reading technology to unlock the device and secure transactions performed with it. It did not materialize.

Fast forward to 2015 and if reports prove true that the Nexus Bullhead will be molded after the LG G4, the device having an iris recognition feature is definitely a major advantage for the Google flagship. The feature will allow the Nexus phone to bolt away from the pack, even beating the industry leader iPhone 6 or 6S, which anyway is the main reason the Nexus smartphone exists.

Iris recognition will also fit well with Android Pay, the new online payment service that Google said will debut with Android M.

However, there is no solid indicator that the technology will be implemented anytime soon by Samsung or LG. The only hint that it could arrive sooner than expected is the talks that LG had already started work on iris scanner way back with the LG G3.

It could be that the company can speed up everything and perfect the feature for deployment with the Nexus 2015. As recent reports have indicated, LG has been tapped to manufacture the 5.2-inch Nexus edition this year that likely will be the reimagined LG G4.

The device is said to have a phablet twin and Huawei of China could be the maker of the 5.7-inch edition. But there were suggestions too that the jumbo-sized Nexus handset could rollout from Motorola's production lines,  which will be patterned after an upsized variant of the Moto X 2015.

The two Google Nexus 2015 models are likely to come out in October or November 2015 as release date of the pure Android flagship is normally scheduled during the holiday season of the year.
