Nepal is now focusing on building temporary shelters for the quake victims as well as preventing the spread of infectious diseases.

Due to the recent calamity that has struck Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region, numerous donations and financial aid have poured from across the globe, both from states and organizations. China Women’s Development Foundation (CWDF) is one of them.

As of 4 p.m. on June 15, the CWDF has so far sent 1.07 million yuan ($173,000) in financial aid and in-kind donations to the disaster-stricken areas. Donations continue to flood in, as the foundation has received donations totaling to about 4.29 million yuan, which includes 3.29 million yuan cash donations and 1 million yuan in-kind.

After the 8.1-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal and Tibet's Nielam County on April 25, a plea for help was quickly sent and the CWDF acted quickly to set up an appeal.

Aside from financial aid and in-kind donations, CWDF has also offered emergency relief to women and children in the areas struck by the disaster. The organization is supported by the Tibet Women's Federation, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and U.N.-Habitat.

CWDF representative Zhang Zhenshan of U.N. Habitat's Asia-Pacific Office, together with staff from its Nepal office, visited the affected areas in Nepal from May 27 to June 4. This allowed them to survey the area and learn about the actual needs of the people, such as shelter and sanitary products.

As a result, the organizations bought over 2,700 sets of products, which included moisture-resistant mattresses, reusable sanitary products, and solar-charging lights. LUMANTI, a local non-governmental women's organization, helped the distribution of the relief packs in 13 communities.

Children's Hope Foundation of China, on the other hand, was entrusted by the CWDF to deliver clothing items, bags, stationary, and food to children housed in Nepal's welfare houses. Tibetan mothers living in affected areas received parcels and women's sanitary products worth 500,000 yuan and 200,000 yuan, respectively.

Today, more help from the organizations are still underway in Nepal and Tibet. These include medical services and aid, especially for women and children.
