The LG G3 and LG G2 may never get the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. On the other hand, the electronics company Sony has vowed to roll out Android Lollipop 5.1 for the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3.

LG Hellas, a regional LG spokesman, has confirmed that the LG G2 and LG G3 will not be getting Android 5.1 Lollipop anytime soon.

It is not yet known whether the electronics manufacturer LG will globally exclude Android update for the LG G2 and LG G3.

This latest development will upset owners who are having issues with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. Problems that were reported include inexplicable reboots, battery drain, app crashes, freezing and overheating. It was believed that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update will fix a number of those problems.

However, some users did not have any problems with the update. Moreover, critics have praised Lollipop for increased battery life and enhanced performance. Consumer experience regarding Android Lollipop appears to differ across platforms and wireless service providers.

Rumors are also doing the rounds that LG may be holding back the G2 and G3 for Android M, which is expected to be coming out later in 2015.

The tech giant Google may release Android M in the third-quarter of this year, GottaBeMobile reported. It means that customers should expect to see the latest operating system between the month of July and September.

Sony said in a blog post that they will upgrade the Xperia Z2 and Z3 to Android 5.1 Lollipop beginning in July. The company has rolled out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the complete Xperia Z series lineup. The Xperia C3 and Xperia T2 Ultra will also be receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update.
