With the new solo "Spider-Man" film ready to enter Marvel's Cinematic Universe with "The Impossible" actor Tom Holland and "Cop Car" director Jon Watts, it has been reported that the iconic web-slinger and his villains may not be the only Marvel characters in the film.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told The Hollywood Reporter that the studio has agreed with Sony Pictures that they can inject additional characters into Watt's upcoming superhero film.
In October, Feige talked about Marvel's Phase Three. It includes a network of nine movies that the studio is going to release in 2016 to 2019 to expand its Cinematic Universe. This suggests that Marvel characters can be randomly featured in some upcoming films.
In March, "Spider-Man" was rumored to have a battle with "Iron Man," which results an audition that determines if the iconic web-slinger is worthy to become part of the Earth's Mightiest Heroes. This is feasible to happen with Feige's recent revelation.
According to Cinema Blend, the possibilities for additional Marvel characters in the upcoming "Spider-Man" film are heightened since it will take place after Joe and Anthony Russo's "Captain America: Civil War," where the friendly neighborhood superhero joins the battle between Captain America and Iron Man.
"Civil War" centers on the superhero registration act, which obliges superheroes to reveal their identities to the government and to the public. This creates tension between Captain America and Iron Man and separates them into two factions.
"Spider-Man" joins Iron Man's side, along with War Machine, Vision, and Ant-Man while Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and Falcon join Captain America's side.
Directed by Watts, the solo "Spider-Man" film is slated to premiere in theaters on July 28, 2017.
