With the success of Luc Besson's action sci-fi film "Lucy" in 2014, the filmmaker has recently revealed that a sequel is happening.

Besson told The Hollywood Reporter at the CineEurope convention in Barcelona, Spain, that a "Lucy" sequel is one of the upcoming titles of the Paris -based EuropaCorp. Along with "Lucy," other films EuropaCorp revealed during the convention were "Valerian," "Escobar," "Transporter Refueled," and "The Lake," among others.

After its release on July 25, 2014, Besson's "Lucy" had made an estimated domestic gross of $43.9 million. As of now, the action sci-fi film has made an estimated worldwide gross of $458.9 million. "Lucy" starred "The Avengers" star Scarlett Johansson, "Ted 2" actor Morgan Freeman, and "The Admiral" actor Min-sik Choi, among others.

As per Cinema Blend, it is possible that Johansson can be seen by fans in the Besson's sci-fi sequel as the actress' return to the second installment will boost the film's marketing. Johansson reprising Lucy will prevent the film from taking an alternative route as well as a tone shift, given its massive success.

On the other hand, there is also a feasibility that the "Avengers" actress may not return to the sequel as she will appear in Joe and Anthony Russo's action sci-fi "Captain America: Civil War" and Rupert Sander's crime drama "Ghost in the Shell."

At the moment, there are no official details from Besson regarding the sequel's plot, cast, and release date.

"Captain America: Civil War" is slated to premiere on May 6, 2016 while "Ghost in the Shell" is set to hit theaters on March 31, 2017.
