OnePlus 2 release is speculated to be on July 27. Following the successful OnePlus launch last year, its successor is all set to try an innovative way for the through virtual reality,.
"A VR launch lets you stand right next to our team and our fans as we unveil our new flagship ... It's a new way of thinking about a product launch. We aren't talking at you; we are talking with you," Founder Carl Pei said in a post on the OnePlus Forum.
The upcoming smartphone will be making its debut in a virtual reality event with the OnePlus Cardboard virtual reality headset. The event will kick off at 7 p.m. PT on July 27 and will be live streamed around the world.
The OnePlus Cardboard reportedly looks similar to the Google's Cardboard initiative. The package will be 20 percent smaller than the offerings from Google, but will provide the same visual experience.
Pei also noted that the OnePlus Cardboard is being tailored perfectly for the upcoming OnePlus Two smartphone and that the company wants to share it with everyone, though it is losing money on it. However, the OnePlus Cardboard will be compatible with any device up to 6 inches in size, NDTV reported.
The OnePlus One successor is expected to sport a similar design to its predecessor, along with a few design tweaks, like a metal frame with black matte finish and more number of holes in the speaker grilles. The flagship device will be using v2.1 of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810, and feature USB Type-C connectivity.
Details about the upcoming OnePlus 2 price or specifications are scarce as of now. However, the OnePlus 2 VR release date is just a month away, and the company is expected to reveal more information about the smartphone as well as the OnePlus Cardboard soon.
