Amazon recently announced that its Cloud Drive service is now accessible in the iOS and Android platform. The Cloud Drive mobile app allow users to access their files stored on Amazon's cloud servers through mobile devices.
While this is a big step for Amazon, the Cloud Drive mobile app only allows users to open a preview of their files. The mobile app allow users to organize and access their files but does not support editing. The mobile app also does not allow user to upload files from their mobile phone.
Amazon Cloud Drive works in the same principle as other online storage services like Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox. On the pricing aspect, Amazon Cloud Drive is the most affordable as it only costs $60 per year. Amazon also offers a $12 yearly plan and it includes unlimited storage for photographs and 5GB storage for other files, according to PC World.
Amazon Cloud Drive is also available for a 3-month trial. Additionally, Amazon Prime subscribers can get the lower-tiered storage plan for free.
According to Tech Crunch, the Cloud Drive mobile app allows user to stream music through the Prime Music service. However, Amazon's music streaming service only hosts around one million tracks which can be easily dismissed if the user has Apple Music or Spotify.
Amazon's Cloud Drive on mobile is not perfect and the company plans to upgrade the service in the future. The company added that as its service expands, the pricing will stay the same.
The Cloud Drive app can be download on the iTunes App Store, Google Play Store and it is pre-installed into the Amazon Fire Phone.
