Moto X 2015 Release Date Update: Expect High-End Specs, Better Customization Options & 3 Models Come Unboxing Time

Moto X (2014) Pure Edition

The Moto X 2015 release date will happen at around the same time that the 2014 version was rolled out in keeping with Motorola's annual product release cycle. As early as March this year, the device maker has hinted that the third-generation Moto X unboxing will happen any time before September.

The hint, according to Gotta Be Mobile, was provided by Motorola official Rick Osterloh, who said in a tweet that "we try to stay on a roughly annual cycle for all of our products." The declaration includes the upcoming instalment of the Moto X, the same Twitter post indicated.

With the Moto X 2015 rollout date pretty much settled, the next question that comes to mind: What to expect?

Top-tier specifications

Motorola fans can expect nothing short of spectacular in the specs department. For the 2015 edition, it appears that the Moto X is ready to shed its mid-range package and take on a course that leads to the big guns out there.

In a leak obtained by GSM Arena, it is claimed that the device will sport the following:

  • A 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 QHD display
  • An 8-core Snapdragon 810 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM
  • 32GB of internal storage
  • A combo of 16MP rear and 5MP front camera
  • A massive 3280mAh battery
  • And Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

It is obvious that Motorola is gunning for the sweet spot that will see the launch of a new Moto X that sports just the right device profile and reasonably priced but with specifications that can measure up with industry leaders.

Expanded customization

The first two Moto X models won approval for allowing users to customize their handsets with wide options available, which GBM said will likely be carried over to the 2015 edition but with more exciting choices to pick from. In dressing up the Moto X 2015, will expand on color and texture options with the report saying that leather and carbon fiber could add up to the fun.

3 variants

Rumors have it that the Moto X 2015 will come in two sizes - the first is the 5.2-inch model mentioned above that will be joined in by a 5.7-inch supersized twin, which likely is Motorola's answer to Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 and Apple's iPhone 6 Plus (and their replacements this 2015).

This week, however, leaked images from Chile pointed to the possibility that a third edition is in the works and it will be called Moto X Sport. As the name implies, the device is designed for rugged use and its banner feature should be protection against nasty drops and water splashes.

If the Moto X 2015 is indeed set for a release date in August or September then Motorola will likely introduce the device soon, possibly in the immediate weeks ahead.
