Online shoppers who tried to buy goods at Amazon Prime Sale were deeply disappointed and were not shy about airing the epic failure by ranting in Twitter on Wednesday. Amazon said it would be better than Black Friday, but it appears that customers were mourning instead.
As a result of the consumer dissing over disagreement with the weird combination of goods placed on sale and what they believe is lack of real deals, the sale became trending on the microblogging site. Hastags used that accompanied them more than 100,000 tweets posted about the sale include #PrimeDayFail, #AmazonFail, #gobacktosleep and #unHappyPrimeDay
Shoppers found it weird that Amazon combined a black holder with a Dacasso Leatherette Square Coaster Set for $24 and a pants hanger and rechargeable batteries for the same price. However, there were also branded items from DeWalt, Black and Decker and Tassimo considered good bargains.
One Twitter member described the event as a mediocre garage sale, while a young shopper said the sale "is a bigger disappointment then I am to my parents," quotes The Star.
Twitter member cat said the good thing about the sale is that "it may not have offered anything anyone wanted, but we all had a good laugh." Contessa Brewer complained that there was nothing good or items she wanted were sold out. The third scenario was the deal of products in her cart expired before she could purchase it.
Amazon opted to ignore the sarcasm and instead said in its emailed statement to the daily that it has been a really busy day for the ecommerce giant as buyers from different parts of the world took advantage of the lower prices. Amazon identified the best-sellers as electronics, diapers, DVDs, kitchen appliances and video games. The online retailer said hundreds of deals are still available, according to Amazon spokesperson Katie McFadzean.
To counter Amazon's sale, U.S. retailer Wal-Mart also offered online deals, but not its Canadian stores. BestBuy.ca cut prices on branded laptops.
Consumer frustration was perhaps captured by Eric Rivier who tweeted, "What a Prime Disappointment @Amazon, you had my heart and could have taken over my wallet for a few hours but you fooled us all."
