Instagram's website now includes a search feature, stressing the point that it is not just a mobile app. The new tool allows users of the photo sharing service to search hashtags, locations, and user accounts, as they can already do on the smartphone app. They will also be able to view "top posts" when they conduct searches for hashtags and locations.

An Instagram spokesman noted that the function of Instagram.com is to complement the company's mobile apps, allowing users to view content from anywhere on planet Earth. It adds value to worldwide conversations.

Lauren Bath has over 410,000 Instagram followers. She thinks the new feature is a "smart" decision as it will create a draw for the browser platform before users try the mobile application.

Bath explained that the search service will be perfect for people who are not tech savvy, or do not own smartphones. They can still follow her work.

She attributed the changes to Facebook, Instagram's owner, which has launched advertising and upgraded functions. So it is "good timing."

The Instagram website is three-years-old. However, its functions only allowed users to browse photos and who had clicked "Like," according to Stuff

However, since then the social networking service has launched many improvements. Last month it added  "Explore" to search real-time events, and recently unveiled high-resolution images.

Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion, according to CNET. Instagram, which allows users to snap, edit, and share photos with friends, has over 300 million active users each month.
