Ford recalled approximately 8,000 vehicles from a wide variety of models due to a problem in the parking brakes.

The vehicle models that may be affected by the parking brake fault include a variety of 2015-2016 Ford Explorers, the 2015 Ford Taurus, the 2015 Flex, and the 2015 Lincoln MKS as well as 2015 MKT, CBS Detroit reported. All these vehicle models were assembled in either Oakville or Chicago between May 4 and May 23, 2015.

According to the Company Safety Compliance Issue, there are no known accidents associated with the complication now. However, if the problem is not corrected in time, major accidents are imminent - particularly for the Ford Felx that combines exclusively a minibus and SUV.

Among the recalled vehicles, about 799 are in Canada, 7,165 are approximated to be in the United States, and just one vehicle from Mexico. Owners of the recalled vehicles should bring them to their respective local dealership to have technicians run an inspection and replace the Parking Brake Control System free if necessary.

Meanwhile, Left Lane reported that the vehicles in question were manufactured with a parking brake that may not function entirely, heightening the possibility of an accident. This fault is as well non-compliant with the Federal Safety Regulations.

The safety compliance reported given by Ford unveils in details the vehicle models will be taken back to the dealers:

  • The 2015-2016 Explorer, the 2015 Ford Taurus, and the 2015 Lincoln MKS autos were from Chicago Assembly Plant
  • The 2015 Ford Flex and 2015 Lincoln MKT came from Oakville Assembly Plant.
