The upcoming Microsoft Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL has been the subject of many leaks and speculation, the latest one claiming that the two smartphones will be the last models to be released in the Lumia series.
According to Forex Report Daily, the flagship smartphone from Microsoft, which was initially developed together with Nokia, will be the last in the Lumia series and will be the official carrier of the upcoming Windows 10 mobile operating software.
The phones are expected to be unveiled along with the release of the Windows 10 update scheduled on July 29. Speculations claiming that the two will be the last in the Lumia series started when Microsoft shuts down its Nokia and mobile devices division early in July. Prior to the shutdown, Microsoft lays off more than 7,800 working on the Nokia brand.
Recent rumors and leaks proved that Microsoft is throwing everything in order to create one of the most powerful smartphone not only in the Lumia series but in the whole smartphone spectrum as well.
The Lumia 940 sports a Snapdragon 808 system-on-chip from Qualcomm and a 5.2-inch full HD display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It has a 20-megapixel PureView rear facing main camera and a 5-megapixel front facing secondary camera, according to GSM Arena.
On the other hand, the Lumia 940XL has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 system-on-chip at its heart. It has a bigger 5.7-inch Quad HD display with resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Aside from the upgraded display, the device has almost identical specs with the Lumia 940.
