Marvel's 'Spider-Man' reboot director Jon Watts and screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have opened up on what fans can expect from the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland.

Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who were recently confirmed to pen the script for the upcoming Sony and Marvel reboot film, shared a few details on how they plan to handle Holland's portrayal of the iconic character. According to Daley, Peter Parker's relatability as a geek will be a crucial aspect of Spider-Man.

"He's a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he's an outcast and a geek through humor," Daley told NPR. "It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he's coming from."

The "Vacation" co-writers plan to give Holland more room to grow into his role as the web-slinging hero. "It's a long journey. You don't want him to become someone capable of saving the world by second act," Goldstein said in an interview with Deadline.

Daley agreed, saying they were definitely attracted to "approaching it from the standpoint of a real kid, a high school geek who, just because he gets super powers he doesn't really want, doesn't become a superhero right away."

He clarified, however, that they still have to work out lot of specifics, and that they will be sitting with Watts to figure it out soon.

Meanwhile, Watts, whom Marvel and Sony hired last month to helm the Spider-Man reboot, approved Holland's casting as the new Spidey, calling him "perfect" to play the well-loved character.

"He can be a real high school student," EW quoted Watts as saying. "That's why people love Spider-Man. He's the most grounded, relatable of superheroes. And Tom can really do that. He captures that...He's perfect."

"Spider-Man" is scheduled to hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
