Football Transfer News & Rumors: Tottenham Targets Javier Hernández To Replace Emmanuel Adebayor, Van Gaal Denies

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal and forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez

Tottenham Hotspur FC wants Manchester United striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernández as they prepare for the season-long transfer of resident forward Emmanuel Adebayor on loan to Aston Villa FC on Tuesday, as reported by the Mirror.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly intending to utilize the 27-year-old Chicharito to fill-in for the 31-year-old Adebayor's role in the Spurs offense this upcoming season.

Last season was not particularly fruitful for the Togo international as he scored only two goals and appeared in just 10 games for the Lilywhites. Before that, he was more productive with 14 goals in 25 games in 2013-2014.

Adebayor is said to be following former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood to Villa as the 46-year-old coach also moved to Birmingham from White Hart Lane in February of this year.

Meanwhile, United manager Louis van Gaal seemed to have changed his mind regarding the status of Hernández as he said that the Mexico International will stay at the Old Trafford this season, according to the Daily Express.

It was reported early in the summer that van Gaal approved of an £8-million transfer for Hernández to the Spurs after being on loan for most of last season to Real Madrid.

Just recently, because of the shortage of strikers in the Red Devils' roster, the Dutch mentor retracted his consent of the transfer, saying that he needed Chicharito to help team captain Wayne Rooney up front.

With the departure of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao and the rumored transfer of Hernández, United would have been left with Rooney as the only legitimate scoring option.

For now, it appears to be that Chicharito is staying put until van Gaal finally executes his "surprise" summer signing of a "Galactico" striker.
