One Direction fans woke up feeling ecstatic that their favorite band has released a single, "Drag Me Down" that has immediately soared in the Billboard Trending 140 Chart and topped iTunes sales.
The popular quartet Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson lost no time informing their throng of followers that they can now listen to the song on Spotify. The song created a stir and immediately zoomed to the top of the iTunes singles chart, MTV reported. The track can also be enjoyed in other sites including YouTube.
One fan even tweeted that she was "waking up with no purpose" but was thrilled to hear the new single that she described as "amazing." "Drag Me Down" has an upbeat tune that may as well be a fitting tribute to loyal 1D fans who have stood by the band's members.
The single was buoyed not only by tweets that accompanied the song release, but also by two momentous events affecting the English-Irish pop group. "Drag Me Down" is the 1D's first single since Zayn Malik left the group; the release follows One Direction's fifth year anniversary, Billboard reported.
After animatedly chatting about the new tune online and in actual interviews, the 1D members confirmed that their fifth album is nearing completion. Horan mentioned that most parts of the new album have been written and recorded, with much of the work executed in Los Angeles and London.
1D alum star Malik, for his part, just inked a new deal with RCA Records and is in the thick of preparations for his new solo album.
