Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain had recently confirmed the £44. 3 million transfer of Argentine winger Ángel Di María from Premier League club Manchester United to their side, as reported by Daily Mail Online.
The 27-year-old Argentina international had a turbulent year with the Old Trafford giants both on and off the field and had requested to be transferred this offseason.
Les Parisiens had long been interested in the services of Di María as coach Laurent Blanc intended to join him with mainstays Zlatan Ibrahimović and Edinson Cavani to form a three-pronged attack.
PSG received their new acquisition with a social media post on Thursday that said "Bienvenido," which means "welcome".
The Qatari owners of the French squad are said to be looking to make a big impression on the coming Champions League and acquiring Di María is just one step in making that happen.
"We are very proud that Angel Di María has chosen Paris Saint-Germain," said team president Nasser Al Khelaifi. "He is an incredibly talented player, with a frightening speed and ability to beat opposition players. He adds his name to the club's strong South American community and, above all, the big Paris Saint-Germain family."
With the completion of the deal, Di María now ranks as the no. 1 "most expensive footballer" of all time, as per the Mirror.
The Rosario native reportedly has the highest Total Transfer Fee spent on a single player with £134.3 million, followed by current teammate Ibrahimović with £126.7 million. At the no. 3 spot is Real Madrid's James Rodriguez, costing a flat £105 million.
Real's Gareth Bale still holds the highest single transfer fee record at £85 million.
