Angelina Jolie Turns Attention To Animated Film On Afghan Storyline 'The Breadwinner' As Next Project

Angelina Jolie To Executive Produce For 'The Breadwinner'

Angelina Jolie-Pitt will be an executive producer for an upcoming  animated film called  "The Breadwinner" which revolves around the life of a young girl who lives under the regime of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The film is an adapatation of the novel written by Deborah Ellis of the same title and is set to be directed by Nora Twomey, while the screen story has been written by the author the screenplay will be written by Anita Doron, according to the Hollywood Reporter

In a statement obtained by the publicaiton, Jolie drew attention to the plight of young girls like the movie's main character who  grows-up under oppression. She said the film is being  produced as a reminder of the contribution and the immense value of these young lives.

The "By The Sea" actress said in the statement that she is delighted to be working with artists who are talented enough to do justice to Parvan's story while portraying the rich culture of the Afghan landscape.

Also, the movie aims to showcase the beauty of the Afghan culture and  its history. A version of the movie is to be produced in the English-language as well as in Dari. The story line follows the character of Parvana, who has to disguise herself as a boy in order to become the breadwinner for her family when her father is imprisoned.

The young adult novel "The Breadwinner" published by Groundwood Books, has been in print for more than 11 years and is a recommended reading text for numerous schools throughout Canada, the United States and Europe. The film adaptation is produced by Cartoon Saloon, Aircraft Pictures,  and Melusine Productions, according to Variety.

Currently, Jolie is directing an original Netflix movie "First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers."
