When Apple launched the iPhone 6 series, it was an instant hit and even broke world sales record beating its closest rival which is the Samsung Galaxy S6. However, the same cannot be said for its flagship tablet, the iPad, which faces one of the worst sales record in recent memory.
An iPad sales analysis posted in Above Avalon showed the current sales situation of the flagship tablet from Apple.
In the quarter ending in July, Apple reported that it sold 10.9 million units of iPad. While this number is already big to some degree, it pales in comparison when compared to the sales output of the same quarter in 2014. In the quarter ending in July 2014, Apple sold 13.3 million iPads.
Above Avalon analysts Neil Cybart posted, "This smoothing effect highlights that the iPad and tablet have been on the decline for years and things continue to worsen with the overall tablet market hitting negative territory for the first time. All momentum has been lost."
While the waning interest in the tablet market can be cited as one of the reason for the iPad's slow market sales. Many industry analysts pointed that rising popularity of other brands also plays a major role. The consistent hardware upgrades for the iPhone and MacBook is also a major deterrent that caused iPad's slow sales output.
Apple scheduled for a major event where tech analysts expect the company to unveil its latest device offerings. On the same event, the iPad Mini 4 is expected to be unveiled as well, according to Macworld.
Reports claim that iPad Mini 4 will be the lightest and thinnest tablet the company has to offer. Despite these interesting specs, the fate of the iPad series still hangs in a balance.
