Josh Duggar: I Cheated On My Wife, Forgive Me

| Aug 22, 2015 04:01 AM EDT

Josh Duggar will appear in the second season of "Jill and Jessa: Counting On" to address sex scandal.

Former "19 Kids & Counting" star Josh Duggar has admitted to cheating on his wife Anna Duggar after getting caught in the Ashley Madison leak.

In a statement released through The Duggar Family website, Josh said, "I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have been unfaithful to my wife."

Feeling ashamed of the double life that he has been living, Josh said he is "grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace" his has caused his wife and family, and "most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him."

Josh confessed to having brought hurt and a reproach to his family, close friends and the fans of "19 Kids & Counting" with his actions. He said he was hiding his own personal failures while publicly stating he was fighting against immorality in the United States in the last few years.

Pointing out that he is learning the hard way, Josh noted that "we have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences."

"I deeply regret all the hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example," Josh concluded his statement. "I humbly ask for your forgiveness. Please pray for my precious wife Anna and our family during this time."

It appears that the statement was edited twice. In the first version of the statement, he originally said he "had allowed Satan to build a fortress that no one knew about." Also, in the second version, he confessed to having secretly "viewing pornography on the internet" over the last several years, which he said "became a secret addiction."

Despite Josh's confession to extramarital affairs following the Ashley Madison leak, a source told People that his wife will likely stand by him.
