Director J.J. Abrams has revealed an update on Kylo Ren, one the characters in his upcoming sci-fi film "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens."
In his interview with Empire Online, Abrams said that Ren is not a Sith. The director added that the masked character serves the Supreme Leader Snoke, a highly influential figure on the Dark Side of the Force.
Fans will know the status of the cosmos upon the start the franchise's seventh film installment. He said that the universe will feature the background of the First Order, along with the future orders that had branched out from it. This implies that fans will be seeing some holes to the previous installments of the film franchise.
Previously, Abrams told The Wrap that Ren's mask is a thumbs up to the Vader mask and he got his name "Ren" from an organization the character joined, which is called the "Knights of Ren." It has also been assumed that Ren was a Sith, because he sports dark cloak, a daunting mask, and a red lightsaber, which resembles him to the members of the Sith order.
Following Abrams' revelation on the character, fans can now decipher how the character will affect other characters and the events in "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens."
Adam Driver is set to play Ren in the film. Set 30 years following the events "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of Jedi," "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" will showcase a balanced line-up of old and new protagonists and villains. The film stars Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Domhnall Gleeson, Simon Pegg, Daisy Ridley, Gwendoline Christie, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill, among others.
"Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on Dec. 18.
