With less than a month for the much awaited “Downton Abbey” season 6 premiere, ITV has released the first promo, giving a glimpse at the emotional final installment.
The upcoming season, that will be set in the 1925’s, will air in the United Kingdom on Sept. 20, Sunday at 9 p.m., Deadline reported.
There is little to nothing about the farewell season, other than that the show will have a time jump of six months after the last season’s finale events. The new minute-long promo teases more change at the Abbey, with Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) seen packing a suitcase and removing his nameplate.
The show, drawing to a conclusion after six years, will end the “Downton Abbey” season 6 before the 1929 stock market crash, leaving a lot of plot to explore, if in case a movie ever happens.
The trailer shows Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville) telling Mr Carson “If I could stop history in its tracks, maybe I would. But I can’t, Carson, for neither you nor I can hold back time.” This suggests that Crawley family and its servants will still be struggling to adjust to the modern era.
As for the other characters, it seems like Edith (Laura Carmichael) finally find happiness, as she is see smiling while talking to an unidentified man. However, the cast as well as the “Downton” creator Julian Fellowes have remained tight-lipped on what the show has in store for its fans.
Earlier this summer, Fellowes, in his interview with the Variety, spoke about how it was to write the farewell season. Though he felt sad while writing the last line of any particular character, he was pleased with how things have been concluded. He added that the “Downton Abbey” season 6 will give a glimpse of how every character’s life would be.
