Viewers Shrug Off Miley Cyrus Breast Exposure At VMA

| Sep 01, 2015 12:13 AM EDT

Miley Cyrus sported yet another controversial look at the MTV VMA 2015.

Should Miley Cyrus be alarmed? Are people tired of her "titties?"

The former Disney star exposed her breast twice on Sunday, before and during the MTV Video Music Awards. While her nude selfie hours before the event garnered about 50,000 likes after she posted the photo on Instagram, Associated Press reports that it was not the same for her second breast exposure.

When the show was about to end, Miley peeked her head behind a black curtain while backstage. However, the curtain slipped and revealed her bare breast. But AP notes that when Janet Jackson suffered a wardrobe malfunction 11 years ago, there was national outrage over her breast exposure.

Miley's nip slip was shrugged off by viewers, AP reports. Or it could have gone unnoticed by many because when MTV realized the singer's tits was out, it cut the scene and played reruns of MTV yearly party.

When Janet had a wardrobe malfunction, seen by 86 million viewers, during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) received 1.4 million complaints. As a result, FCC fined CBS $550,000 with the case lasting until 2012 when the court reversed the decision.

On Monday, after Miley's breast exposure, no one was talking about it because the topic of discussion in offices were Kanye West's 2020 presidential ambition and his career achievement award acceptance. Partly also because the VMA was seen by only 9.8 million people, according to Nielsen.

Also, Janet was not in the habit of exposing her breasts, while Miley had done it several times that people did not consider what happened at the VMA backstage worthy of their time. But E! News notes that Miley was practically naked while hosting the VMA with just "two strategically placed silver straps over her chest and a crystal-effect miniskirt" which are just two pieces of blinged-out macarame to cover her groin and bottom.
