"Switched At Birth" season 4 returned to ABC Family on Aug. 31, Monday, with a new episode titled "How Does A Girl Like You Get To Be A Girl Like You." The episode 12 focused how newly-single Bay (Vanessa Marano) is dealing with with the nightmares of her rape when she discovers that people are talking about it.
"Switched At Birth" season 4 episode 12 also featured the evolving relationship of Daphne (Katie Leclerc, who has a hearing loss herself) and Mingo along with Toby's (Lucas Grabeel) crisis.
The episode 11 showed Bay is still grieving over her break-up with Emmett (Sean Berdy) while Daphne is basking in the glory of the new romance. The episode 12 began with a seminar being organized in the school over the issues of sexual assault when the Bay is forced to recall the incident with Tank.
Bay's name is announced publicly and she finds herself in an uncomfortable position as a few girls approached her to congratulate her for standing up to her attacker while others are smirking that she is the one responsible for them having to get up at eight in the morning.
Meanwhile, the family is facing financial crisis. At the same time, Daphne loses her merit based scholarship and the parents are forced to provide for her tuition fees till the time she does not recover her grades.
Toby and Lily are pregnant. When they find that the baby has Down Syndrome, they decide to abort the fetus, since they are not even financially capable. Although it sounds best for them, Daphne took the matter of terminating the child with special needs to her heart.
Daphne confronts Toby about the abortion who warns her to mind her own business. She later vents out her frustration on Mingo, who reveals that he is trying to learn sign language just to be with her, though, her interpreter is not much impressed with him.
Bay learns that her friend Travis (Ryan Lane) has also experienced sexual assault as a child. The two reconnects and talk at length the things which have been bothering them.
