U2's frontman Bono who invested in Facebook has earned more than what the singer has made from all the written and recorded music throughout his career.
According to the Independent, the 55-year-old singer purchased shares worth more than $80 million from the social networking site in 2009 through Elevation Partners which is an investment company which he co-founded .
While the recent returns on investment have not made him the richest musician in the industry, his earnings of $1.4 billion is reported to be split amongst the partners at the firm who will only be entitiled to 20 per cent of the earned profits.
The singer whose real name is Paul Hewson, will take home about $40 million from the deal according to the Mirror. However, the singer still trails behind celebrities such as Madonna and Paul McCartney who head the list of pop music's richest stars.
According to figures quoted by the publication the total returns on investment are said to be more than what Bono and the band have earned over the years comprising of earnings from record sales of 150 million globally.
The social networking site Facebook which went public in 2009 hit its own billion mark this week when a billion registered users joined the site.
Previously it had been reported that losses at an ethical clothing brand launched by Bono and Ali Hewson his wife had made a $5.2 million loss.
The singer and his wife launched the ethical clothing line in 2005 in order to set about a positive influence through its trading relationship in Africa.
Despite the company's losses the couple and other directors had stated according to the publication that they are confident the present strategy will yield a sustainable and successful brand.
