From movies and TV shows, to novels, rags-to-riches stories will always have a special place inside people's hearts.

This same phenomenon also follows the unpredictable world of professional wrestling.

It has been widely considered that former NXT Champion Kevin Owens is epitomizing the characteristics of this classic protagonist - or antagonist, depending on one's point of view.

For over a decade, Owens successfully transitioned from being a ragtag in-ring performer in L'Assomption, Quebec, Canada, all the way to becoming a common fixture under the bright lights of the WWE.

Now, he is sharing the ring with the likes of generational icons John Cena and Randy Orton, as well as creating significant rivalries with fellow independent stars Cesaro and Finn Balor.

Through all these accomplishments in his young career, it's amazing to think that Kevin Owens remains firmly established to his roots.

During a recent interview with DC101's Mike Jones, Owens recalled certain moments that just seemed too surreal.

"It's happened to me several times over the past few months and it still happens. I get in the elevator and it's just me in the elevator," Owens said. "I'll find myself staring at the reflection and thinking, 'how did you get here?' and it's a way of reminding myself that this is what I've been waiting for forever."

When asked about his former NXT comrades possibly getting a call up to the main shows, he stated "I think there's a lot of people in NXT that are right on the cusp of being ready to come and make an impact on the main roster."

He listed Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, and Hideo Itami as the ones who are probably on the verge of WWE stardom. Owens added that Enzo and Big Cass are also two of his favorite NXT Superstars to date.

Owens continued to sing praises to the WWE developmental system by stating, "That's the thing about NXT and the way they built NXT is it's so good to get you ready for the moment," he followed. "Triple H built it with that in mind, that once you get that opportunity you nail it and knock it out of the park. He did everything he could to make NXT basically a smaller version of Raw."

After bringing the house down in his first SummerSlam, expect Kevin Owens' stock to boost in the coming months.
