‘Sherlock Holmes’ Season 4 Spoilers: Filming Starts In 2016, A ‘Victorian Gentleman’ Sherlock To Come In Christmas Special

Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong has cited "Sherlock" as one of the present-day cultural TV offerings the U.K. has in China.

BBC plans to release a special episode of "Sherlock" that will fascinate fans before the launch date of season 4.

Co-producer Steven Moffat dished on the rationale behind continuing with the project. According to Moffat, it is not all about the setting, but Benedict Cumberbatch will unveil the other side of the story. Cumberbatch will be more refined as a Victorian gentleman as opposed to the current role he plays in the contemporary age Sherlock.

The special is speculated to be a stand-alone production, and has no connection to season 4. According to Digital Spy, Moffat explained, "We wouldn't have done the story we're doing, and the way we're doing it, if we didn't have this special. It's not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it - as we could hardly conceal - it's Victorian."

While viewers may not like Sherlock's attitude change, the abrasiveness of his character determines the direction of the contemporary adaptation of the series.

Fans of "Sherlock" will have to wait a little bit longer for season 4 after season 3 finale aired in 2014. Season 4 will start filming in 2016 and the series is expected on TV screens in early 2017, Movie Pilot reported.

However, it is not all lost for the fans since producers Mark Gatiss and Moffat are bringing together a cast beforehand to make a unique Christmas Special.

In addition to Martin Freeman having an amazingly "pimpin" moustache, fans should anticipate a new setting and backdrop. In the Christmas Special, Cumberbatch playing Sherlock Holmes and Freeman playing John Watson will be brought from modern era London to 1995 period.
