Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt are talking in an interview about their new film production called "Friends With Kids."

The reason behind Jennifer Westfeldt and Jon Hamm's split was because the "Mad Men" star wanted a mother figure.

It had already been rumored that the couple for 18 long years would be splitting months ago because of a rift that developed between them. Finally, on Sep. 9, Wednesday, the couple had announced that they have already separated.

One insider told Us Weekly that Hamm finally got sober and wanted to have kids because throughout their time together, the actress had always been taking care of him. Hence, she became tired of acting like a mother to him instead of being a girlfriend.

Hamm though was kept in a "tight leash" by Westfeldt, a source told People. Nevertheless, she would always support and take care of him, especially even during his difficult times and even after nights when he partied hard. Moreover, she was also there when Hamm finished his rehabilitation because of alcohol abuse that he even credited her for being there for him while he was having treatment.

Although the source said that the director, producer as well as actor was well-liked by his colleagues on the set where he also sent Christmas cards to the crew, he could also be "a really dark person" that he could pass as bipolar.

The source also added that he always had his own demons in his life that he needed a mother figure to support him, which Westfeldt did for him for a long while. Because he was sober now, their separation took place as he would not need to rely or lean on to her anymore.
