Ronda Rousey will step into the shoes of the late actor Patrick Swayze and star in the remake of the 1989 action film "Road House."

Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Ronda Rousey has tucked another film project under her belt.  The 28-year-old mixed martial arts champ will star in the remake of the 1989 action film "Road House," generating mixed reactions from netizens.

Rousey will tackle the male role of a professional bouncer that "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost" actor Patrick Swayze quite convincingly portrayed.

The remake of a movie that has attained cult status, and the casting of Rousey have sparked various comments in Twitter sphere. While some of Rousey's fans showed excitement and expressed that she can pull off the role of a bouncer who faces a ruthless town leader, other movie buffs tweeted that there are certain films that are better off not rebooted.

Though Rousey has starred in a number of films, and has gained a huge following, there are other people who just cannot see her playing the lead role in a cult favorite, The Wrap reported.

Rousey has acknowledged the legacy left behind by Swayze, and even sought the blessing of the actor's widow Lisa Niemi before agreeing to go full throttle with the film project, Variety reported.

The new film's producers are about to hire writers to work on the script, and production has been slated in 2016.

Rousey's popularity has skyrocketed over the past several months. She has appeared in movies that include "The Expendables 3," "Furious 7," and "Entourage."  Rousey has also gunned for the part of Miss Marvel in the upcoming flick "Captain Marvel."

The UFC fighter who has been adjudged Best Female Athlete and Best Fighter by ESPN has been featured in countless magazines, including ESPN's 2012 Body Issue.

Rousey's current star status is expected to generate interest for the "Road House" remake and nudge action film lovers to flock to cinemas, when the movie is released in 2016.
