Facebook Mentions app

Facebook is expanding its Mentions app, which was previously only available to some celebrities including actors and musicians. The live blog app could only be downloaded from Apple's iOS App Store in the past, now any individual with a verified Mentions account can access the platform. The application will make it easier for Facebook users to connect with their favorite public figures and journalists.

Facebook's official blog states that Mentions users can report from a location using Live, host a Q&A session, and have real-time interactions with their followers. They can also review people's comments about them and the topics they follow. Mention users can also review Facebook's trending topics.

In addition, Mentions app users can choose with whom they share texts, links, and photos on News Feed, according to First Post. For example, it could just include followers.

Facebook wants more journalists to use the platform to distribute their content. This allows for live posts such as during breaking news.

Facebook users can log in to their verified profile and then link to their followers. Public figures can also fill out a form to verify their profile or Page.

This process makes it easier for verified users to manage their Facebook account by viewing users' posts that mention them, and allow them to respond faster and more easily. A Facebook Mentions timeline of posts is also available.

The Mentions app gives access to News Feed videos, and people who responded to a celebrity's posts will be notified after the broadcast starts. Facebook calls it a genuine method of connecting with fans.

Facebook started offering the Moments service to complete with Twitter's Periscope live streaming and the Meerkat app, according to Zee News. Both applications were launched earlier this year.
