A Russian UFO believer saw on Google Maps the possible crash site of what he believes is a UFO and shared online the coordinates. The alleged crash site is on the South Pole.

The Mirror reports the coordinates as 80°34'08.4"S 30°05'19.3"W. After the coordinates were shared online, the results have become viral as other believers in UFO sightings checked it on the free Maps software of Google.

While conspiracy theorists, such as Valentin Degterev, consider the object he saw online "the most genuine UFO in its most classic shape," other online searchers say it is only a crevasse, or a crack in the ice. An online survey of Mirror readers showed that 86 percent believe it is only a crevasse, while 14 percent shared Degterev's opinion.

But Degterev reckons the object measures 204 feet across, in the process ruling out a polar station or an airplane because there is no jet or helicopters that large. However, he also admits "I do not presume to know exactly what it is," quotes Daily Star.

In June, Degterev likewise claimed seeing a UFO in an unknown black mark.

Because of the thinking by UFO enthusiast that Antarctica - due to its sheer size - is a possible landing size for alien spacecraft, a 1982 movie, "The Thing" exploited that theme by featuring a shape-shifting extraterrestrial who could take the form of humans and killed Earthlings. With its 14 million square kilometers of frozen land, the continent is deemed by UFO enthusiasts as the perfect landing spot because aliens could arrive unnoticed.
