Manchester United Rumors Central (from L to R): Thomas Müller, David De Gea, and Hugo Lloris.

With team captain Wayne Rooney sidelined because of a strained hamstring suffered during training, Manchester United was lucky to have signed teenager Anthony Martial during the transfer deadline.

While the Red Devils clearly lack strikers, they have a surplus in goalkeepers as Louis van Gaal restored David De Gea in his starting lineup over Sergio Romero, who played decently during his time with the first team.

Below are more rumors about United's strikers and goalies.

United set to sign Thomas Müller on a world-record bid of £88M: While the bid is real and the move would be a dream come true not only for van Gaal but also for the Old Trafford faithful, Bayern Munich officials had reportedly rejected United's offer.

Pep Guardiola is said to be adamant that the club will not sell its prized striker for any amount at any time. Verdict: Fiction.

David De Gea happy to stay at Old Trafford: Finally, everything is back to normal again in David De Gea's world.

In the game against Liverpool on Sunday, the 24-year-old Spain international was warmly welcomed back by a loud ovation from Old Trafford fans after a long hiatus.

He is noticeably happy about his new £40-million contract and re-insertion into the starting XI that his face could not hide it, frequently smiling and celebrating en route to United's 3-1 victory over Liverpool. Verdict: Fact.

Van Gaal targeted Tottenham's Hugo Lloris during deadline day: The Red Devils made an offer for the Spurs' 28-year-old goalie late in the transfer window as United officials felt De Gea's departure is already set.

But as the Spaniard's transfer to Madrid fell through, the bid for the France international was eventually retracted. Verdict: Fact.
