The Ford Motor Company recently revealed its latest app which is compatible with both Android and Apple watch wearers. The "MyFord" app allows drivers of electric, plug-in hybrid model vehicles to have access to a range of data through the use of their wearable smartwatches.
The app has been designed to display to run on round and rectangular shaped faces of smartwatches and provides data such as charge status of the vehicle battery, summary of the last trip, summary of the used mileage, as well as the ability for drivers to precondition the cabin, according to USA Today.
The announcement by the company comes amidst current interest being generated by the Frankfurt Motor Show where alternative fuel vehicles are the main attraction with Porsche exhibiting its E-Mobility four door concept which is in direct competition with Tesla's S Sedan which have taken the gloss away from vehicles fueled by gasoline.
The automobile industry is increasingly being defined by electronic features and such has been the direction of companies like Google and Apple that have focused more attention on hiring engineers who are auto focused.
The recent app has not been a first for the Ford Motor company that ran a teaser of its Apple watch app during an event earlier this year at its Silicon Valley research center, according to The Verge.
According to the publication the Ford app has its limitations and is mainly geared towards the Focus Electric, Fusion Energi and the C- Max Energi which fall into the category of electric and hybrid model vehicles.
The vehicles are fitted with cellular modems in order for the smartwatch's remote functionality to work, connectivity is required unlike Ford's other line up of vehicles.
