"The Affair" season 2 episode 1 will see Cole's (Joshua Jackson) distress over the affair of his wife gradually turns him into a dangerous man.
In a trailer video unveiled by Showtime, Jackson brings to surface what Cole was undergoing after finding out that Noah (Dominic West) and Alison (Ruth Wilson) were having a love affair. Jackson indicated that his character's dangerous side will emerge, as he loses himself more and more. In fact, the video reveals Cole holding other people hostage at gunpoint.
Jackson said, "He's just sort of empty. It's like he disappeared inside of his own life. Alison's perspective on Cole would be pretty fearful at this point. That was a completely out of character moment for him to do something so violent, really, and aggressive."
The second season will progress with the deeply intimate subject by eventually providing Cole's and Helen's (Maura Tierney) perspective, Variety reported. The characters' scorned and betrayed spouses are each focused on different types of closure and have very different ways of handling it. However, from the trailer, it is clear that the two are not perfect as such.
Noah's wife Helen will have her own share of mystery in season 2. According to Enstarz, out of all the members affected by the illicit relationship, Helen will struggle the most.
Tierney said that her character, Helen, has to be strong for the sake of her children. She said, "In season 2, I think Helen's struggling to be a mom and a daughter, and she has to function at her job. So there's all of these ways that she's expected to still sort of perform and she's having a really hard time doing it."
While Helen's inner struggle is pinning her down, she will walk shoulder high not allowing her husband to pity her. She will resent Noah, making him less sympathetic towards her state.
Tierney added that from Noah's perspective, she is much colder, condescending, and threatening.
"The Affair" season 2 will debut on Oct. 4, Sunday, on Showtime at 10 p.m. EST.
