Sony has not cut the price of its PlayStation 4 game console in the United States to boost sales, since it was launched in 2013, and has actually moved off shelves faster than the Microsoft Xbox One. However Xbox's head has announced that it expects PS4 to decrease its price point during the holiday shopping season, which it has already done in Asian countries such as Japan.

Xbox chief Phil Spencer noted that Sony has reduced the costs of its game consoles in the past during the winter holiday season. Thus, it will likely take that step again.

Spencer explained that he is confident about Microsoft's pricing plans for the end-of-year season, according to Ubergizmo. He also thinks a price drop from Sony is inevitable.

PS4's third year on the market will begin soon, which is the time the company has usually marked down the base price by about $50. The Japanese company's P4 console price cut and bundles including Star Wars and Lego games could keep it at the top spot moving into the new year, according to CinemaBlend.

The Xbox division's head explained that a price decrease would benefit gamers. That is due to a spike in competition, which could require game console manufacturers to offer customers more value for less money.

Sony and Microsoft could do battle by offering more games and services, and lower prices. That is what occurred during last year's holiday season, triggering record gaming console sales.

Sony might announce PS4 price cuts for the holiday season in October. It will attend the Paris Games Week then.
