Benedict Cumberbatch plays the title role in "Sherlock."

It is rumored that the shooting of the popular series "Sherlock" Season 4 will start in April 2016.

"Sherlock" fans are eagerly waiting for the next season to arrive on the small screen. It is being awaited for more than a year now. Earlier last month, many rumors were surfacing about the show getting cancelled, according to The Stately Harold. However, Gatiss, who plays the role of Mycroft in the series, put these rumors to rest. The next season is rumored to be darker than the previous seasons.

Earlier, it was also rumored that popular series "Sherlock" may make an appearance in another popular TV show, "Dr. Who". Showrunner Steven Moffat is denying the rumor about the crossover of the two shows. The mini crossover of these two shows is the ultimate dream of all the geeks who follow them, but the show runner is not convinced with the idea.

In his recent interview with Collider, Moffat explained that the meeting of the two protagonists of the shows will make a serious confusion about the character of Sherlock. The reason behind this is that Sherlock will need time travel to meet Dr. Who, which will lead into a lot of confusion.

Even if their meeting sounds like the ultimate thing to ever happen in the history of TV shows, it will eventually lead into darkness and weirdness, according to the show runner. He further added that the two protagonists are more than enough to run their own shows, and no one needs the other to even make an appearance in their show.

"Sherlock" Season 4 is all set to return to TV screens sometime next year. The final date of release is yet to be announced.
